The candidacy of Ms. Mideksa, an Ethiopian prisoner of conscience, was adopted with unanimity at the S&D Group Meeting.Ms. Mideksa is an opposition leader of the Unity for Democracy and Justice in Ethiopia and an activist for woman's rights and equality. She faces life in prison for advocating peacefully and continuously for democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law in Ethiopia.

The vote on the candidates for the Sakharov Prize 2010 will take place - in camera and by secret ballot - on Monday, 18 October 2010 at 19.00. The prize-award ceremony will take place on December 15, during the plenary session in Strasbourg.
